You're so vein(y)

Updated: Jul 18, 2019

I am a sucker for cosmetics and toiletries. I have boxes of doubles and triples of things I like and I will try anything twice! So much so that a friend gifted me a book by Sally Hughes and said that I should start writing about all things I buy and try...Well here I am!

Recently my social media has been blowing up about this life-changing foundation -made by TLM Cosmetics- that matches anyones skin tone. This I HAD to try out. I read the reviews posted, watched the videos and looked at the photos. It looked too good to be true. I went to their website and added two bottles to my basket. The more bottles I bought, the bigger the discount and stated in bold print, ALMOST SOLD OUT... It probably wouldn't have sold out but this marketing ploy always instills a sense of panic in me. I had to have it. I did a quick Amazon check and there it was, cheaper that on the original website. I quickly ordered one.

Fast forward to a week later and the doorbell rings. I answer it and the postman struggles to pronounce my name and after reassuring him multiple times that I am me, I receive my package. I was surprised that it shipped from Taiwan. I didn't expect it to be a direct import and expected it to be sent via an intermediary company based in a western country - as it seems like western women are the target market.

Immediately I opened the packaging and took out the battered box. The first thing I did was pump a small amount on to my hand and was hit with a really beautiful smell of jasmine -or is it plumeria?- and I was briefly transported back in time to a holiday I had in Thailand. Don't you love that smells can do that to you?

I'm naturally quite tanned -thanks to my Lithuanian and Western European heritage- and I currently use a combination of two foundations to get the correct skin tone. I was taken aback at how white the foundation was. There was NO way this would blend and look natural on me. After a few more seconds of blending there was a clear distinction between my skin color and this foundation.

You probably think this post is about you...

It didn't provide the coverage I wanted. I want so much coverage, I don't even want to see my veins . Once dry, the foundation seemed to crack and I became a bit despondent. It was 10 AM, I was still in my PJs and had Ren clinging to my leg so I thought I might as well continue my review and put on a face.

After applying two layers of foundation to hide some imperfections -thanks postpartum hormones- I was desperate to set the foundation with some powder but didn't for the sake of science. The more steps I took to complete my day make up the more I became impressed. I don't know if the foundation needed time to "bake" but it started to seem more natural.

Don't you?

The jury is out on this one:

It didn't last 16 hours. (How would I know? I'm a new mom and can't stay awake past 8PM without yawning.)

It needed two coats.

BUT

The color looked better over time.

It's vegan, paraben, sulfate free and most importantly, cruelty free.

Would I buy it again? Probably... I'll try anything twice.
